COVID Updated Policies2022 

The biggest change being that children are no longer required to isolate when a close contact.

If a parent or household member is positive the child is not allowed to attend either.

We will not be required to close unless we cannot provide required staff to children ratio due to illness and lack of staff.

Children are still required to be symptom free to attend child care.

All children in school aged programs (Summit Kids and Shuswap Explorers) are required to wear a mask while inside. Please make sure your child has a clean mask to wear after school.

Make sure your child is prepared to play outside after school- Our program is outdoor based, you will find us outside utilizing our forest and outside area.

As always we will post on our outside classroom door- where we have headed and the cell phone number of where we can be reached.

Upon pick-up, we will try to have your child ready to head out the door- if you must enter, masks are to be worn and social distancing practices are in place at all times. Be quick and mindful of others!

We are a separate entity from the school and do not get notified if your child is absent or you have written in their agenda. PLEASE SEND A QUICK TEXT if your child will be absent!

Thank you for doing your part and keeping us all healthy and safe as we work together as a community.

If anyone needs care on school closures- we do offer Pro-D day camps and summer camps out of our location in Salmon Arm- Summit Kids- see website for more details.

We’ve had some big helpers come in and do some crafts and sensory projects with the kids after school- everyone has really enjoyed this!

We would like to remind families to please make sure your children have appropriate gear to play outside after school as we spend the majority of our afternoons outside!

Also spare clothes are a great to have. A large ziplock bag with a spare set of clothes- labeled works great and you can leave it in our room!

*Please send us a quick text or phone call if you child will be absent! We have a list of children attending and we are left looking for your child if you have not informed us of their absence! A quick text will do wonders!! *

As we head into a new school year we would like to welcome everyone back! Our first day will be Wednesday the 4th- we are NOT open the first day of school as it is a short day.

We are open the same days as the school from 2:00pm to 6:00pm- If your child is in Kindergarten you will not be charged for after school care until full days commence as we are not able to accommodate the gradual entry.

If you have not confirmed your child’s space and would like after school care please do so ASAP

The first Pro-D Day is September 20th. If you are looking for childcare that day- we have camps offered in Salmon Arm- Check out Summit Kids on our website.

This year we are still in the lower part of the school- we are fortunate enough to share the indigenous room again this year (beside the Strongstart program) Parents may park along side the school and come to our classroom door for pickup. If we are out and about you will see us playing or a note will be on the door letting you know where we might have headed off adventuring.

We strive to provide a program where the children can unwind at the end of their school day. We try to leave it pretty open ended with engaging activities that children may choose to participate in with a large amount of free play offered outside.

Here are a few reminders!

• Please pack an extra snack for your child! It’s a very long day and the kids are often hungry after school.
• Pack a suit and towel (you may leave this in our room) while it is still warm we may head to the beach.
• If your child will be absent please call or text us to let us know! 250-803-2996
• It is your child’s responsibility to meet us at the designated meet spot-** In front of the main entrance inside there is a bench- we meet here daily after school – (Kindy’s will have some guidance!)
• Always pack appropriate outside gear- we head outside daily rain or shine
• Label, Label, Label your childs’ belongings!

Summer is quickly approaching!!

We’ve had another great year at Shuswap Explorers After School Program and look forward to another fun year!

If you will be needing after school care in September please register online and secure your space. Spaces are limited!

A $50.00 non-refundable deposit will be required to hold your space for September.

If you will be needing summer care at all over the summer or would like to put your kids in a fun adventure camp for a week or two over the summer- check out our Summit Kids program based out of Salmon Arm. We offer full day adventure camps Monday to Friday. Bus heads out at 9 am and is back by 4pm. Our opening hours are from 7:30am to 6:00pm.

Please remember to let us know if your child will not be attending the after school program on their scheduled day!
